March is women’s history month. This year we are working with a National Literacy Trust project in Askham Grange women’s prison near York. Women make up just 4% of the total prison population, the majority serving short sentences. Many have experienced violence and abuse including coercive control.
We will be telling the story of Herstory.York and of many brave, spirited women who have inspired change in York – but whose stories have not been told or have only been partially told – and will be working with women prisoners to support and enable them to share their own stories.
